"ARTM" is a local non-profit organization
founded by Mr.Jose Perez Navarro, ideologist and president of the
project “Proyeto Hombre”. He begun a progressive rehabilitation
and social reintegration work and guided his experience and dedication
to recover many drug abusers. He past away in 1999 with AIDS, infected
in the period of his dependency on drugs.
"ARTM" was based in Macao since 1993. Starting
out as an informative center, giving prevention methods to those
whom requires. Some of the services that we performed at that time
were prevention speeches in schools, distribution of preventive leaflets,
and prevention outreach to those places most overwhelm with this
problem.
› In the year
2000, Mr.Augusto Valente Nogueira was selected as the president and
therapeutic responsible of the center. He followed the ideology of
the founder and has strongly increased the actions in the field of
detoxification and rehabilitation, developing techniques and human
conditions that allow to provide a professional service that overview
the following:
- Official opening of therapeutic community of “ARTM” in
long-term resident in Coloane. The upgraded conditions of this center
allowed us to offer a caring and supportive environment and a comprehensive
structured schedule including individual and group meetings, relapse
planning and chemical dependency education;
- Organization of several courses to improve professional skills
and health knowledge;
- Seminars and study visits for the inmates in treatment;
- Expansion of the social contacts and cooperation with others institutions
from the same area of work for a better support to all the drug abusers
of Macau;
- Substantial improvement in the installations of the center such
as the construction of the Gymnasium, Music room, recreational equipments,
Canteen, and the garden;
- Introduction of one specialized Social Worker to attend to the
social problems of the inmates;
- “ARTM” started in beginning of 2002 its Out-Reach program.
Through this program the center already admitted many inmates and
others were send to the D.P.T.T.;
- To achieve all those who are suffering from this world problem, “ARTM” decided
to give free entrance to all, regardless of social level;
- Continuous work to develop the work against drugs, “ARTM” is
an ordinary member of the I.F.N.G.O (International Federation of
Non-Government Organizations). “ARTM” also have an official
cooperation protocol with the IAS (Institute of Social Service of
Macao).
- “ARTM” also actively attends the regional conferences
between Macao, Hong-Kong, and Mainland China on the topic for the
fight against drug abuse.
